General Health Information
Mission
The mission of the Southern Nevada Health District is, “To assess, protect and promote the health, the environment and the well-being of Southern Nevada communities and visitors.”
Vision
Healthy people thriving in a healthy Southern Nevada.
The Health District offers services and provides regulatory supervision that impacts the public every day – from the food they eat and the water they drink, to the public establishments they visit, the businesses they operate and the requirements they must meet to work in certain industries such as food service and child care.
History
The Southern Nevada Health District was created in 1962, following statutory authorization from the Nevada State Legislature to combine the county health department and the health departments of several surrounding cities. Pursuant to Nevada Revised Statute (NRS) Chapter 439 the Health District’s powers and jurisdictions are as follows:
Prevent and control nuisances;
Regulate sanitation and sanitary practices in the interests of the public health;
Provide for the sanitary protection of water and food supplies;
Protect and promote the public health generally in the geographical area subject to the jurisdiction of the health district; and
Improve the quality of health care services for members of minority groups and medically underserved populations.

Our Mission
Prevent Homelessness, Preserve Families, Provide Hope.
HopeLink is dedicated to keeping families housed and supported through challenging times. Since our founding, we’ve empowered thousands of Nevadans to overcome barriers and find stability.
Our Story
Life below the poverty line is a ‘normal’ existence for many families and seniors where low incomes, unemployment and unexpected life crises have dragged them to the brink of hunger, tragedy and homelessness. Believing that this ‘normal’ need not be lasting nor permanent. HopeLink exists to ‘change the normal’ for thousands each year. It’s not just our motto but the very heart and purpose of our savvy, dedicated staff and volunteers who, from experience, know creative ways out to a better life and stable living, inevitably transforming their concept of what actually is ‘normal.’
Every person deserves a chance to move out of poverty into a life of self-sufficiency with dignity. HopeLink provides chances and opportunities through providing practical financial assistance, effective case management and imparting hope to the hopeless at crucial points of a life crisis.
